The Technical Article Garden: Sharing Deep Technical Knowledge My Way
Cultivating Connected Knowledge with Obsidian
I want to share my approach to technical knowledge sharing, the Technical Article Garden. This project grew out of my personal challenge of effectively communicating complex technical concepts when traditional methods weren't cutting it.
Why I Created This
As someone deeply immersed in the technical world, I've always struggled with a disconnect. My business-facing blog helps explain tech value to stakeholders, but I needed a dedicated space for deep technical discussions – where I could explore complex ideas without simplifying them to the point of losing value.
The Technical Article Garden became my solution – my personal knowledge sharing system that bridges this gap, allowing me to document and share sophisticated technical concepts in their full complexity.
Beyond Traditional Documentation
What makes my approach different from standard technical documentation:
• Connected Knowledge: I link related concepts together, creating knowledge pathways that mirror how technical minds actually think. My GitHub Copilot integration guide naturally connects to related tools and workflows.
• Evolution Over Time: I let knowledge grow as understanding deepens. My custom modes implementation guide started simple but evolved as I discovered edge cases and optimizations.
• Practical Context: I include real implementation stories. The AI agent evaluation framework shares my actual failures and successes, not just theoretical best practices.
How This Technical Garden Serves the Community
This approach has transformed how I share technical knowledge:
Knowledge Discovery: • Readers find relevant content through multiple connected pathways • New community members quickly build mental models of complex systems • Difficult concepts become more digestible through contextual connections
Contribution Flow: • My "document as you learn" approach shows the journey, not just the destination • Content naturally refines over time as my understanding deepens • Technical discussions become collaborative explorations rather than static explanations
Technical Communication Impact: • Complex topics become more approachable when properly connected • Knowledge silos break down between specialized domains • The craft of technical explanation becomes valued alongside the technical work itself
The Technology Behind It
On the implementation side, I use Obsidian with Obsidian Publish as my technical backbone. This provides the perfect environment for creating and maintaining a connected knowledge base. The linked-thought approach matches how technical concepts naturally connect in our minds.
This technical implementation lets me quickly capture insights, create meaningful connections between concepts, and make the entire knowledge garden accessible to anyone who needs it.
Core Knowledge Areas
My technical content covers several domains I work with regularly:
• Implementation Techniques: Practical guides for implementing AI solutions in production environments
• Architectural Approaches: Decision frameworks for evaluating technical tradeoffs
• Emerging Technologies: Exploration of new AI approaches with practical experimentation notes
• Advanced Concepts: Deep dives into complex AI techniques with implementation considerations
How This Complements My Business-Facing Content
While my blog and other channels focus on translating technical concepts for business audiences, the Technical Article Garden serves a different purpose:
• It provides a space where technical depth doesn't need to be sacrificed for accessibility • It allows me to document complex technical journeys that wouldn't fit in a traditional blog format • It creates a reference resource that grows alongside my technical exploration
This two-pronged approach lets me serve both audiences effectively – business stakeholders get the context they need, while technical practitioners get the depth they crave.
Getting Started
Curious to explore this approach to technical knowledge sharing? You can access my Technical Article Garden at https://publish.obsidian.md/aixplore. I recommend starting with the quick-start guide to understand how the pieces fit together.
If you're inspired to create your own technical knowledge garden, my documentation strategy guide shares the principles and tools that worked for me.
While I initially created this for my own knowledge management, I've found that sharing it has led to richer technical discussions and collaborations – a wonderful side effect of making complex knowledge more accessible!
